‘SNL’ Pays Tribute To George H.W. Bush With Clips Of His & Dana Carvey’s Sketches
At the tale end of this week’s Weekend Update, Michael Che & Colin Jost paid tribute to George H.W. Bush with clips of Dana Carvey & Bush’s appearances.
Well, that was sweet! While Michael Che and Colin Jost did a great job of skewering President Donald Trump‘s appearance at G-20, they took some time at the very end of the segment for a moving tribute to former President George H.W. Bush, who passed away on Nov. 30. Introducing the segment, Colin said, “President Bush was always a warm and gracious man who understood the power at laughing at yourself.” In addition to showing some of Dana Carvey‘s best impersonations of the late statesman, they also showcased a back and forth between Bush and Carvey that went down on the show.
This season has had some memorable Weekend Update moments. Just last week Dan Crenshaw arrived on the show’s segment to accept Pete Davidson‘s apology after the comedian made fun of his eye patch. Well, he also made some hilarious disses aimed at Pete as well. After Dan’s Ariana Grande ringtone went off, he said, “Oh, do you know her?” And after that, Crenshaw shaded Pete’s appearance by saying he looked like the meth from Breaking Bad were a person, a troll doll with a tape worm and Martin Short in The Santa Clause 2.
And the week before that, Pete actually commented on his split from Ariana in a very upstanding way. He said at the time, “And the last thing I will say is I know some of your curious about the breakup but the truth is it’s nobody’s business and sometimes things don’t work out, and that’s OK. She’s a wonderful, strong person, and I genuinely wish her all the happiness in the world. Now, go vote on Tuesday.” We’ll keep you posted with all of the latest SNL sketches.
